Each merchant has grading rules, per product category and universal. A rule names an issue, whether it needs a photo, which service it calls for and which disposition it recommends. The processor sees the merchant's issues on a grid with a key per issue, so the same unit gets the same grade whoever is standing at the bench.
Photo evidence, when the SOP asks.
Photos are required per issue, by the merchant's rule. The camera opens in the browser on the tablet, Space takes the shot, and the photo is stored against the issue it evidences. Photos appear in the merchant's dashboard and in the export, so a dispute weeks later is answered by the record, not by memory. Comments on an item can be dictated instead of typed.
Repairs and license plates.
When a service takes more than a moment (a repair, an alteration, a send-out), the unit gets a printed license plate and leaves the bench with its return still open. The SLA clock pauses while it is out. Scanning the plate back in reopens the item with the outcome to mark, and every service carries a price, so the record that proves the work is the record you bill from.
Put-away.
For a unit going back to stock, the put-away dialog is pre-filled with the warehouse, the SKU and the bin the SKU was last seen in, from a copy of your system's locations. Enter puts it away and writes the movement back. Today that write-back is built for SkuVault.

SLA tracking.
Every return carries a countdown against the merchant's window. Admins see the queue sorted by time left, with under-four-hours and past-due called out, SLA compliance by merchant, and the risk split between on time, at risk and overdue.
Hands-on time, per item and per processor.
Every item records when grading started and finished. From that: hands-on time per item, throughput, restock rate, disposition mix and top issues, by merchant and by processor, for the day or the month. It is how the 40 seconds was measured.

The merchant dashboard.
Each merchant signs in to their own returns: status, items, dispositions, the photos, the grade and a history of every event on the return. Public comments from the bench reach them; private ones do not. Exports come as a ZIP with the CSVs and the photos grouped by return.
The return portal.
For merchants on Shopify, a branded portal where the shopper looks up the order, picks items and a reason, and gets a label and a return packet. Reasons can require a note or carry a fee, exchanges can be limited to the same product or opened to the catalog, and refund, exchange release and restock can fire on receipt, on inspection or by hand. The return enters your processing queue the moment it is created.
